Christopher Priest has taken this book into a great new direction! By now, everyone knows that Slade Wilson has been killed off. Yet, Priest keeps this book more than alive but telling a completely great story. It’s wonderfully berserk and it’s just the way I like my comic book reading!
I’m excited to see where this storyline ends up taking us from here!
The opening scene in this book shows Rose on the ground lying down in pain. She is surrounded by a bunch of arrows. And she is in the middle of a fight with Jericho. It’s a striking beginning and it made me pay attention right away!
From there, Priest packs a lot of story into the fast paced narrative.
We see a lot of back story of the events that lead up to the fight between the two. It gives the story an extra layer of context. We get to see Jericho get the offer from Lex Luthor in full. It’s an ominous scene that has a lot of menace behind it. It’s well paced and just expertly done with both the story and the artwork.
Jericho takes a really dark turn in this issue.
The way Priest shows his rise to power here is quite well done. Jericho has always been a kind of passive character in many respects. Here, the creative team shows a different aspect of him. It’s a really nice change.
Priest has Jericho make decisions that basically turn him into a major league villain. He takes the fight to Rose and the confrontation between the two is the crux of the issue. I loved how it was handled. And the end is perfect and leaves us on a nice cliffhanger. This is a great issue in an awesome book. It’s only getting better each month!
