This book only gets better and better.
Scott Lobdell continues to take this book into completely new directions. This has been a continuously inventive and fun series that only goes to new and crazy places constantly. I love what he is doing and it’s truly been an exciting read!
This issue starts off on a crazy note.
We see Jason Todd as a teacher in some sort of outside weird classroom.
We then cut back two weeks earlier and get to see how the story leads up to this wacky beginning. Jason meets up with Doctor Shay Veritas. They have a long talk that ends up with them working together.
We get to see scenes from the past mixed with scenes from the present.
Jason is leading a new rag tag bunch of people. They go on a mission and they have a success.
Meanwhile, we get to see Artemis and Bizarro regrouping themselves. That scene is especially poignant and Lobdell does a great job writing this particular scene. It hits all the right emotional moments.
We get to see Jason‘s new team go about their work. The new team is very rough around the edges. This eventually leads to a cliffhanger ending where one of the new teammates may be meeting their maker. It’s a pretty harrowing moment but it’s also damn good.
It’s great to see Rocafort drawing this book. Anytime that he is an artist on a book, it’s immediately worth reading. This is no different. His art really carries this story very well. This is a nice first issue in a new direction. I can’t wait to see where they take us next.
