Stream On: New to Netflix for August 2019

Netflix wants to fill your final days of summer with nostalgia as the streaming service packs its catalog with returns of retro shows and movies, guaranteed to make any ‘80s and ‘90s kid smile. These yesteryear favorites from both the small and big screen mixed with long-awaited returning series will give Netflix viewers every opportunity to stay indoors.

On August 9, the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling step back into the ring for a third time. This round, the women of GLOW take their show on the road with a Las Vegas act.

Also that day, everyone’s favorite wallaby from the ‘90s returns to the small screen with Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling. The former Nickelodeon star finds a new home on Netflix as the Aussie attempts to find his way in the modern world.

Another toon returning to the small screen is Hot Topic mainstay Invader Zim. The surreal toon also makes the leap from Nickelodeon to Netflix after a multi-decade gap. Picking up where the left off, the feature follows the diminutive would-be subjugator and his ever-present sidekick Gir resume their plan to conquer Earth. Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus will debut on Aug. 16.

Also on Aug. 16, thriller Mindhunter returns for a second season. This time around, FBI agents Holden Ford and Bill Tench continue to pick the minds of America’s most nefarious killers, including Charles Manson.

And if that day wasn’t packed enough, Aug. 16 also sees the debut of Sextuplets, starring Marlon Wayans. The original feature follows a man as he learns he is just one of six lookalike brothers and sets off on a journey to find his family.

From producers Barrack and Michelle Obama, docu American Factory follows a Chinese billionaire and his efforts to open a factory in Ohio, causing ire in the community. American Factory premieres on Aug. 21.

And finally, on August 30, return to the world of The Dark Crystal with the high-anticipated The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, a prequel to the fantasy classic that traumatized children back in 1982. Gelfings, Mystics, Skeksis, and whatever Aughra might be all return in this series to mortify a new generation.

Starting on Aug. 1, Netflix adds a small selection of pics to its original programming slate. Fans of the Italian Stallion will be thrilled now that the entire Rocky saga is now available for streaming. Watch all of the ups and downs in the life of Rocky Balboa, including that time he wastes his money on a robot butler.

Other pics added to the catalogue include classic comedies (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Groundhog Day, Something’s Gotta Give), thrillers (Panic Room), and the occasional dud (Jupiter Ascending).

Happy viewing!
