Stream On: New to Netflix for September 2019

September on Netflix is filled with unique original series, returning favorites, and A-list filled flicks guaranteed to keep you inside for the fall season.

On Sept. 6, Netflix offers a whole host of goodies for all demographics as the streaming service debuts kiddie book adaptations, bold series in that traces the roots of modern music, and the latest endeavor from Sacha Baron Cohen.

Limited series The Spy follows the true story of Israeli clerk Eli Cohen who becomes a spy for Mossad on a secret mission in Syria. The drama stars Cohen and Noah Emmerich in this very true, stranger than fiction, historical account.

For the indoor kids, Arrested Development and Veep star Tony Hale brings the children’s book Archibald’s Next Big Thing to life in an original Netflix series. Show follows the frolics of friendly yet little nervous poultry Archibald Strutter who is on the hunt for his next big adventure.

Music fans will rejoice as the third season of Hip-Hop Evolution hits the streaming service, also on Sept. 6. This season, the series shines a spotlight on Southern sounds, with focus played on Down South talent including The Geto Boys, UGK and 2 Live Crew, to name a few.

On Sept. 12, original limited sci-fi series The I-Land debuts on the streaming service. Series follows a group of people who wake up on a mysterious and dangerous island with no memory of how they got there. Think everyone who attended the Fyre Festival landing on the playing field from Hunger Games’ Catching Fire.

Stars Toni Collette, Merritt Wever and Kaitlyn Dever star in the drama series Unbelievable. Inspired by true events, the film follows a teen who reports and recants her alleged attack, which catches the attention of two detectives who continue to investigate the case in an attempt to discover the truth. Unbelievable is available for streaming on Sept. 13.

Bruce Campbell tries his hand at animation, frontlining the toon series The Last Kids on Earth, available on Sept. 17. Joined by Mark Hamill, Rosario Dawson, Catherine O’Hara and Nick Wolfhard, the series is based on Max Brallier’s books that follows the adventures of Jack Sullivan, tween zombie killer.

On Sept. 20, the irreverent Zach Galifianakis hits the road bringing his unique banter to a whole host of new guests with the feature film Between Two Ferns: The Movie.

And on Sept. 27, Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk try their hand at Netflix Originals with The Politician, a pitch black comedy that takes a long, hard look at the state of today’s politics. Series stars Ben Platt, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Jessica Lange.

Returning original series this month include Ashton Kutcher “comedy” The Ranch (comedy is in quotes because the term is subjective and depends if you feel canned laughter and cliches are funny), the second season of Matt Groening’s Disenchantment, sci-fier mystery series Glitch, and a deep dig for answers to the unexplained in season two of Explained.

Joining the catalog this month includes a handful of comedies (Stripes, Superbad), critics’ favorites (The Lord of the Rings series, Mystic River) and a ton of kiddie fare to cheer up the little ones who are fondly remembering their summer (Igor, Open Season).

Happy streaming!
