This is a Titans book written by Dan Jurgens and drawn by Scot Eaton that originally appeared in the Walmart line of books.
Neither one of these creators are at the top of my list of favorite comic book creators. So I approached the book with a little bit of trepidation. I was hoping that it would be good but I was preparing for the worst.
So, how did it fare?
Well, I tried to enjoy it. I really did.
But I found the story incredibly pointless. Jurgens is definitely a better writer than this. The only positive thing I can say is that maybe younger kids will like it. I just couldn’t get into it and I tried a few times.
Hawk and Dove seem to be leading normal citizens into some sort of revolution. They are marching against the rich people for some reason and things are getting out of hand.
Then the Doom Patrol show up to throw in their two cents. Everyone seems to have something to say but it doesn’t add up to much.
The Teen Titans then get involved and then all holy hell breaks loose. That’s pretty much the basis of the story. That’s also where the story pretty much levels out. There’s nothing to really grab the reader nor make you want to pay attention. I found myself getting distracted quite quickly and didn’t care about any of the characters even though I’ve known them for years. And that’s downright strange.
The art by Eaton doesn’t help. It’s dangerously flat and doesn’t generate much in the way of a heartbeat. I wish I had something better to say. But there really isn’t. I’ve seen much better work from both of these creators. This just ended up being a colossal waste of talent and that’s the saddest thing of all.
