The second installment of Wonder Woman’s Walmart exclusive title (Justice League Giant) expands the narrative, introduces new characters, and presents more questions than answers.
The last issue ended with the sight of a giant jaguar wearing Steve Trevor’s top-secret aircraft as a chain.
It was quite the visual that suggested a ferocious attack was coming. Instead, we got a picky carnivore who is always hungry.
It was quite a fun way for Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti to subvert expectations. Bugs the size of horses, killer robots, gun-wielding cavemen and Jonah Hex enters the fray.
I always find it jarring when characters who have met multiple times are written to be meeting for the first time, which is what is presented with Wonder Woman and Jonah Hex.
These books, however, are designed for a new readership so it easy to let something like this slide.
Chad Hardin’s illustrations are beautifully exhibited across each page to deliver a fun-filled sense of adventure. The action sequences come off as something seen in an animated series. The colors are vibrant and augment the page layouts quite nicely.
Overall, readers will find themselves with a Wonder Woman story that is an easy read, and that is not a bad thing. Conner and Palmiotti are having fun bringing in all sorts of crazy elements. The caveman grunting with a rocket launcher was a visual that made me smile. If you go into this series not expecting the depth of the current ongoing series, readers will have fun with this book.
