I have been loving Peter J. Tomasi’s story on this book featuring Mr. Freeze as the villain. It has been an exciting and exuberant story that is full of excitement.
The art by Doug Mahnke has been some of the best artwork of his career and that is really saying something. This is some top level work right here!
The issue opens with Mr. Freeze and his wife Nora at the Gotham Pine Barrens. Nora is crying and upset that Mr. Freeze has finally revived her. They are reunited!
Though Nora has had some modifications done, things are okay for the Freeze family.
They spend the first part of the issue catching up.
Then, we head over to the Batcave. Bruce is trying to figure out how to track down Freeze. He also is trying to figure out how to save some of the victims of Freeze. There is a lot going on, but Tomasi never makes it confusing. It is a nice refreshing change from how most comic books work these days.
A few things happen.
Eventually, Bruce Wayne finds himself face to face with the Freeze family. A harrowing moment is when Bruce sees Nora alive and helping her husband commit crimes. She and Bruce have a talk and it does not end well. Batman is on a collision course with this married couple of villains.
The ending is a little bizarre but I loved it. The Freeze family is remaking Gotham. This part is beautifully illustrated by Doug Mahnke as is the whole issue really). The strong writing alongside the great art, make this another fine chapter in a great story. This creative team is making some of the best Batman stories currently being produced. Worth a look.
