This book had so much potential. I love the idea of monsters coming together to fight bigger monsters. It should be some good old fashioned monster fun going on here. Instead, it is a burden and a chore to get through, full of characters I hardly care about.
And that is the saddest part.
The opening part of the book has the Gotham City Monsters gathered on a roof. It is a beautiful shot by artist Amancay Nahuelpan. The art really is the best part of the book. They are regrouping after Melmoth’s attack. And one of then is missing! What are they going to do?
Things should be getting exciting.
And it doesn’t get exciting.
They just sit on the roof talking pretty much. The whole thing just plods along from scene to scene. Andrew Bennett (otherwise known as I, Vampire) decides to take it upon himself to go up against Melmoth. Things don’t go so well for him. He seems to have gotten himself into a lot of trouble!
That is when the Gotham City Monsters decide to come to his rescue! It is handled pretty straightforwardly with not much invention. The fight happens and the fight ends. It is as basic as it sounds.
By the end of the book, I was half asleep. There is a tease at the end for Batwoman being in the next issue. Hopefully she can save this book. Right now, help is sorely needed.
