‘Inferior Five #3’ (review)

Written and Illustrated by
Jeff Lemire and Keith Giffen
Published by DC Comics

This book is such a weird and wonderful alchemy of comic book creators that I just love it.

Jeff Lemire and Keith Giffen are two fantastic cartoonists who I never would have thought would be working together.

But now that they are, I can’t get enough of it! This is really a cool and just awesome comic book.

The opening of the book has two members of the “Inferior Five” talking about what they have to do.

They are stuck in Dangerfield, Arizona and now must stay alive. They agree that they must find the others and group together and possibly even save the world.

This might be a harder task than they think.

We get to see some of the other members of the group and they are rough. And I mean, really rough. I commend both Lemire and Giffen for having characters that aren’t the norm. Their efforts are really commendable.

The two girls eventually go and find the Tasmanian Devil. Some fun stuff happens. By the end of the issue, the Devil is going up against a big starfish. All of that, and there is a hell of a cliffhanger. Things are really heating up in this title.

The backup for this issue has the Peacemaker going up against the KGBeast. It is a hell of a showdown too. There is actually some incredible art and some really excellent staging in this chapter. Lemire was really born to draw the Peacemaker. It is some pretty great stuff.

I am enjoying this comic book very much. It is unlike anything else out there and that is a good thing. I am only sad that it is a limited series (but it doesn’t have to be DC). I love both of these creators and I feel like this is a gift every time it comes out. Well done gentlemen.

RATING: A
