Last issue, Batgirl suffered one hell of a defeat at the hands of the new Oracle.
Cecil Castellucci has really cranked up both the action and the drama on this book over the last few issues. The direction that she has taken Batgirl has been simply amazing.
I have to say that this may be one the best Batgirl stories ever!
The opening of this issue has Batgirl running away from Oracle.
It is a harrowing scene as Batgirl has fallen into some fiery water. Oracle and it’s followers talk to see if Batgirl has indeed escaped or if she died.
Then, they go about their way to wreck havoc on Burnside.
We then get to see that Barbara has escaped. It is a beautifully illustrated moment that makes you want to cheer.
The next few pages has Oracle making it’s moves and taking over the city. It is interspersed with Batgirl swimming. It is much more tense than it sounds, and it is pretty well done. Kudos to the creative team.
Barbara eventually emerges from the water and she is unconscious. She is pulled to safety. The rest of the issue shows Oracle becoming super powerful. Meanwhile, Barbara is resting and regrouping. She gets back on her feet by the end of the issue and is ready to fight back!
So, the battle for Burnside is about to happen! I could not be more excited. This is a transitional issue for sure but it is well handled. It is all leading to a big battle and I can’t wait to see what happens. This is really getting good!
