The stories that writer Dan Jurgens puts forth seem to be getting better and better with each issue. He has a lot of balls in the air but he manages to do a great job keeping them all distinct.
Last issue, he cranked up the insanity by having a woman in the Bat-suit. Now we get to see some of the fallout from that.
There is a thief at the beginning of the issue staring at a vehicle. He plans to steal the vehicle and use it for his own reason. The woman in the Batman suit sneaks up on the thief and brutally attacks him. It is a hell of an opening.
The two fight and the woman makes short work of the thief.
Things only get crazier from there.
We then go to the Batcave. Barbara comes in and sees Bruce. They both talk. Bruce tells her that if she wanted to be Batgirl again, that she should have just asked for the suit. Barbara laughs. It is then that Bruce realizes that Barbara is not the person in the Batsuit.
But if she isn’t, then who is?
Bruce only has one more suspect at this point and that is Melanie Walker. Matt goes and interrogates her. It doesn’t pan out. She is not the woman in the Batsuit. The mystery deepens. It is a nice tight scene with some really great emotional resonance.
We get to see Terry on the street looking ragged. There is an incident. It leads to a chase and a nice twist.
This was probably my favorite sequence in the entire book.
The last part of the book has an old foe returning. The woman in the Batsuit runs afoul of Bruce, who is trying to capture her.
comic And it leads to a really tense cliffhanger. A lot of questions are raised.
The art rounds out the issue beautifully. Sean Chen was somebody that I have never really enjoyed before this. Here, he does some incredible work. This is a pretty great issue. I can wait to see where this goes.
