‘Batman/Superman #5’ (review)

Written by Joshua Williamson
Art by David Marquez
Published by DC Comics

This has been an unexpectedly amazing book.

I have always loved these two creators separately. Now that they are working together, I have been geeking out. Williamson always writes a decent story and Marquez always provides some amazing art. I guess that I just wasn’t prepared for how dark this actually is. But it is so well handled and just perfectly done that I couldn’t put it down.

Batman and Superman’s fight against the Batman Who Laughs goes full tilt crazy at the beginning of this issue.

What I mean by that, is that it is awesome and crazy and beautifully illustrated.

Batman and Superman are desperately racing to try and stop this villain and they are having a hell of a time trying to do so.

They also have a now evil Supergirl to contend with. It really does feel like the odds are stacked against them. But the dynamic duo presses forward, undeterred. That’s when Superman enters an area and comes face to face with a powered up Lex Luthor.

Batman meanwhile, has his own trouble to contend with. He goes up against the infected Blue Beetle. He stops him and then he and Superman save the world yet again! What a good couple of heroes!

Or have they?

The ending has quite a twist that is extremely dark. I loved it. We do get a sort of cliffhanger to the next story. Honestly, I can’t wait. This has actually turned out to be a solid book that is highly entertaining!
