This book is just so cool. Last issue was so insane and this issue picks up where that one left off. The Rogues have taken The Flash to the brink and all hell has indeed broken loose. Writer Joshua Williamson has taken this book and created a storyline that is truly awesome. It is exciting and completely enthralling.
Captain Cold is now known as King Cold! He has acolytes who worship him now. Things are really crazy.
That’s when we see The Flash in chains! Rafa Sandoval draws an amazing splash page here! He truly demonstrates the anguish that Barry is feeling. He is rapidly becoming one of my favorite artists on this title.
The Flash has company in his prison, right in the prison cell next to him in fact! Who is it? Why, it is none other than the Trickster! He is in chains as well! The two of them argue.
The Trickster tells Barry that he is just trying to enjoy the end of the world. Things aren’t looking too good.
That is when a mysterious woman phases into Barry’s prison cell. She helps free Barry. But they have some trouble getting out of there. Barry also has a power inhibitors on his neck. They are attacked and a fight ensues. When they finally get out, Barry see that Central City has been decimated and that time and space has been decimated as well. He also sees Lex Luthor’s symbol is high in the sky.
We then get a sequence where we get to see how formidable King Cold has become. It is a brutal sequence that was well illustrated. We then get a kind of crazy and shocking ending. This is so good that I was actually mad when the issue ended because I was so invested in the story.
The comic is inventive and it is incredibly well drawn. Williamson goes out on a limb and takes risks consistently. They pay off for the most part. This is a well done comic indeed.
