Written by Cecil Castellucci
Art by Cian Tormey
Published by DC Comics
Man, what a difference it makes having Cecil Castellucci as the writer of this title. This comic has taken on a new life and it has been getting more exciting and enjoyable with each issue. The story in this issue may be the strangest story to come from Castellucci thus far, but it is enjoyable nonetheless.
It is a start of a new storyline here called “Graveyard Of Words And Bones.” A
t the beginning of the book, an old lady is being attacked by two demonic dogs. Batgirl comes to rescue her. She tussles with these creatures.
The old lady tells Batgirl to go for their belly buttons because that is their weakness.
Just what is going on here?
The creatures escape and the old lady runs away. But left behind are a couple of books and a wallet. We then go to a place called “Unearth” after that and we wind up getting a little bit of context.
Then the story really takes off!
It is then that we see that Barbara has to go up against a new villain called The Maker. He has come to Gotham and he must be stopped soon.
Batgirl has to be the one to stop him.
But can she?
Or will she succumb to his crazy powers?
The story is a lot of fun. Castellucci keeps things light but it also has a lot of adventure to it. I really like the art by Cian Tormey here. It fits this story very well and it feels fresh. This issue is a good start to this brand new storyline.
