‘Flash Forward #5’ (review)

Written by Scott Lobdell
Art by Brett Booth
Published by DC Comics

This book has absolutely turned itself around for me and has become a really enjoyable read.

I love what Scott Lobdell has done with this and I love the art by Brett Booth. The pair have reenergized Wally West as a character and it has turned into an awesome book!

Wally is with his kids at the beginning of the issue. They are alive. But they may not be for long if Wally cannot save them from the evil that is coming their way.

The art conveys Wally’s anxiety perfectly in the beginning of the issue. There is a lot at stake here and the tension is palpable.

The evil coming for Wally and his kids looks insurmountable.

The kids tell Wally to run. But Wally won’t leave them. He takes them and runs with them. We then have one of the most emotional flashbacks that I have ever seen in a comic book.

We flashback to Wally and Linda lying in bed. Wally’s kids are babies at this point. These two pages serve as a wonderful counterpoint to the chaos in the present day. They are beautiful and the creators handle it perfectly.

Wally and Tempus meet up.

Wally also comes up against the Mobius Chair. This leads into an incredible cliffhanger. Wally’s dialogue on the last page shook me to my core.

I have no idea how this is going to end next issue. This series started off slow but quickly became just amazing. I am counting the days to the last issue. This has turned into something really special.

RATING: A
