‘The Question: The Deaths Of Vic Sage #2’ (review)

Written by Jeff Lemire
Art by Denys Cowan
Published by DC Comics

I absolutely love this book.

It is one of the first comics in a long, long while to make me feel like a kid again as soon as I open it up. Jeff Lemire is the perfect writer for this comic. And nobody can draw the Question like Denys Cowan. This is a hell of a creative team and a hell of a story!

At the end of last issue, the Question is thrown back in time!

The Question supposedly died in the present day last issue.

We get to see in this issue that as a result, he has been thrown back into the Wild West!

Lemire has created a nice new place to put the character.  Right away, a whole bunch of new opportunities popped right on up.

So Vic Sage is now in the 1800’s. He immediately finds himself in a heap of trouble. What else is new? We get to see Vic buy an axe at the beginning of the story. He has a very specific reason for buying it, of course.

During the middle of the night, a black man is accosted. He is brought in to be hung. Sure enough, Vic appears at the scene. He saves the black man. Vic then goes on a quest of his very own. He also has to go up against this new landscape and all of the trouble he finds along the way.

Vic is trying to figure out a connection to his death in the previous issue. Why is he here? How does it all relate? Lemire keeps the questions coming and he keeps the drama high.

The art on this is just amazing. Having Denys Cowan pencil and having Bill Sienkiewicz on the inks is absolutely amazing. The art really is a gift. The whole book is actually. You can’t ask for much better than this. Recommended.

RATING: A+
