‘Year Of The Villain: Hell Arisen #2’ (review)

Written by James Tynion IV
Art by Steve Epting and Javier Hernandez
Published by DC Comics

If this is the last story of the Year Of The Villain, then it  is a real weak one thus far.

Don’t get me wrong, it is beautifully illustrated by Steve Epting and Javier Hernandez. It is just the story that is weak and it doesn’t really do much for me. And that is a real shame.

The beginning of this issue has Lex Luthor fighting the infected!

The fight begins. And I have to say, it is probably one of the most wordy fight scenes of all time. Luthor eventually brings some of his own help. Then, the fight ends and Luthor goes about his way.

We then get to see The Batman Who Laughs give a big soliloquy. It is weird but then even weirder, it seems that he has captured the Phantom Stranger.

This seemed a little far fetched and forced. The visuals are nice on this but I wasn’t sure where it came from.

After this, we get to see Lex Luthor hard at work. It is again a scene with a lot of exposition. By the end of the issue, Lex has another confrontation ready to happen and then the Joker shows up for some reason.

Maybe that part will be explained next issue but really, who knows?

Like I said before, the art is really good here. But I have lost interest in this. Maybe it will pick up but we deserve more than this, especially after close to a year of stories leading up to this. This is flat and it could have been very exciting instead.
