‘Dollhouse Family #4’ (review)

Written by Mike Carey
Art by Peter Gross
Published by DC Comics

Of all the books to come out from the Joe Hill line of comics, this is definitely the best.

Mike Carey is an excellent writer and he really struts his stuff here. This book has a really great plot and a lot of interesting characters. I actually have been enjoying it very much.

At the beginning of this issue, Alice is fighting the Dollhouse from her past.

The opening pages are like a scene from hell. We then head to the year 2005. Alice wakes up in a hospital. She is missing a leg. It is a pretty terrifying scene.

From there, things only get crazier.

Alice had to learn to walk again. Her daughter is also similarly maimed. But is all of this real? Or is this just another sinister trick from the Dollhouse?

The story keeps twisting and turning a lot and it is delightfully nutty.

A final confrontation between Alice and the Dollhouse is brewing. The thing is, the Dollhouse is doing things to her that are increasingly terrible. Things come to a boiling point at the end of the issue. It gets pretty insane.

The story by Carey is top notch. You can’t ask for a better horror script than this. And the art by Peter Gross with the inks by Vince Locke is perfect.

This is a very well done book that keeps you on your toes throughout!

RATING: A-
