‘Superman’s Pal, Jimmy Olsen #8’ (review)

Written by Matt Fraction
Art by Steve Lieber
Published by DC Comics

Matt Fraction has, with this book, written one of the silliest and just plain enjoyable comics in modern times.

It is funny and strangely compelling. Each issue goes into new directions which I can never predict. And I have to say that I have laughed out loud a few times reading this. It is really a lot of fun!

This issue starts off in the home of Julien Olsen. He is eating breakfast and spits his coffee out when he sees the newspaper.

Apparently, there are a plethora of Jimmy Olsen’s that have returned, much like the Reign of the Supermen storyline. It is a pretty funny start to the book.

That is when we get to see all sorts of headlines happen and little snippets of action.

“Cyborg Monster Olsen Foils Robbery!” and “Stealers Stilled By Steel Olsen” are a few of the headlines. This is a funny bit and I laughed out loud. So far, so good.

A lot more craziness ensues. We get to see Janie Olsen as well causing some trouble. A few more crazy moments happen.

And by the end, Jimmy finds himself in a UFO headed into the sky. It is all very silly and enjoyable.

I love how Fraction writes this book. He keeps everything moving and in a fun way. The art by Lieber is simple yet extremely effective. This is another solid issue of this series.
