‘Bang #1’ (review)

Written by Matt Kindt
Art by Wilfredo Torres
Published by Dark Horse Comics

Anytime Matt Kindt has a new comic that he has written come out, it is always a cause for celebration. This time he is teamed up with artist Wilfredo Torres. Torres is an excellent and somewhat underrated artist. When I heard that they were working together, I was excited to see what they would come up with.

And I wasn’t disappointed in the least!

The book opens with Thomas Cord tied to a chair and being interrogated. Things get pretty intense. Then, Cord gets free and fights back against his attackers. He then makes a daring escape and jumps from the building into the water.

He gets himself onto a boat where he meets Fanny. It seems like they are about to make love and then?

She just kills him. I was shocked. This is one hell of a way to begin a series! I was hooked immediately.

We then get to see a black man go on a mission. He meets his target and she calls him Thomas Cord.

This Cord has no recollection of who he is. He then meets a mystery writer by the end of the issue. The writer seems to know what is actually happening. And then, that is when we get a decent cliffhanger.

This is an interesting and intriguing start to this series. I have no idea where they can possibly take this. But I can’t wait to find out. It is a little short, but generally, I loved this. I look forward to the next issue!

RATING: A-
