Sonic the Hedgehog is Heading to VOD on March 31st


Paramount Pictures is bringing Sonic the Hedgehog home to digital platforms early on March 31 as families are being forced across the country to practice social distancing. Paramount has also announced it will release on 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD on May 19 and Redbox around the same time.

The decision to release the film early digitally comes as Warner Bros. recently moved up the online debuts of Birds of Prey, The Way Back and Just Mercy to March 24, while fellow studio Sony has bumped up Bloodshot‘s debut, STX’s The Gentlemen and Disney’s Frozen II and Onward, while Universal has released Emma, The Hunt, and The Invisible Man early and are planning to release Trolls World Tour simultaneously online and in theaters in April.



Rosario Dawson Joins The Mandalorian Season 2


The second season of Disney+’s acclaimed Star Wars spinoff The Mandalorian is making a huge creative decision to cast Rosario Dawson (Zombieland: Double Tap) to star as a live-action version of fan-favorite Rebels and Clone Wars character Ahsoka Tano.

Tano made her first appearance in Star Wars lore in the 2008 Clone Wars film that led into the hit TV series. She was originally the Padawan to Anakin Skywalker and was not well-received by fans of the franchise, but as her character grew and developed over the years, she quickly became one of the highest-regarded characters in the entire franchise.



Showtime is Offering a Free 30-Day Trial


Showtime is following in the footsteps of fellow networks and streaming services and is offering a 30-day free trial for new customers. Customers who sign up prior to May 3 will have access to the network’s original series, documentaries, specials and movies online by streaming through their website on the Showtime Anytime app, including catching up on the multiple Emmy-winning series Homeland, which is currently in its eighth and final season and is set to conclude on April 26.

In addition to Homeland, shows available for streaming from Showtime include Shameless, Billions, Ray Donovan, Black Monday, The L Word: Generation Q, The Chi, City On a Hill, Kidding, Work in Progress, Back to Life and On Becoming a God in Central Florida, as well as the limited series Escape at Dannemora and The Loudest Voice, and the upcoming premiere of docuseries Vice, the new season of The Trade, hit series Couples Therapy and documentary films including The Kingmaker and Pavarotti.



Leia Organa – A Princess, A General, A Mentor is Now Available

A new Star Wars: Galaxy of Adventures short is now live, focusing on the legacy of Leia Organa, stretching from her days of fighting with the Rebel Alliance to commanding the Resistance and inspiring a new generation of heroes in Rey, Poe Dameron, and more.

Star Wars: Galaxy of Adventures is a series of animated shorts celebrating the characters and stories of a galaxy far, far away, featuring a bright and colorful art style, exciting action, and insight into the saga’s greatest themes.



Onward Releasing on Digital and Disney+


Following the film’s theatrical release on March 6, Disney and Pixar have officially announced that director Dan Scanlon’s fantasy animated film Onward will be arriving early on digital and on Disney+! Starring MCU stars Tom Holland and Chris Pratt, the film is now available for digital purchase and on Movies Anywhere. It will also be receiving an early streaming debut on Disney+ on April 3.



Bloodshot Releasing on VOD on March 24th


Columbia Pictures is making their Vin Diesel action pic Bloodshot available for electronic sell-through on March 24 for the retail price of $19.99. The movie opened at the box office this past Friday to $9.1M and in the wake of the theater closings over the weekend has seen its box office fall from $2.1M on Sunday to $552K on Monday to $191K yesterday.



Beastie Boys Story is Now Coming to Apple TV+


The IMAX theatrical release of Oscar-winner Spike Jonze’s upcoming documentary Beastie Boys Story has been postponed. The movie was initially scheduled to release on April 3. A new release date will be announced later, but the documentary will still stream on Apple TV+ staring on April 24.

“Our highest priority is the health of our audiences and employees, as well as their families and communities. Given the COVID-19 pandemic and resulting theatre closures nationwide, we have decided to postpone the theatrical release of Beastie Boys Story to a later date, which will be announced as soon as possible. IMAX ticket holders can receive a full refund by contacting their local theatre. Beastie Boys Story, directed by Spike Jonze, will premiere on Apple TV+ on April 24,” an IMAX spokesperson said in a statement.

The docufilm features Beastie Boys members Mike Diamond and Adam Horovitz as they tell you an intimate, personal story of their band and 40 years of friendship in this live documentary experience directed by their longtime friend and collaborator, Academy Award-winning filmmaker Spike Jonze (Her, Being John Malkovich, Adaptation).



Quibi’s Murder House Flip Trailer Released

Quibi has debuted the first trailer for Murder House Flip, a new twist on the home renovation series seeing prospective homeowners acquiring high-end properties that were home to brutal murders. The trailer can be viewed in the player below!

Quibi is set to launch on April 6 with 50 shows and movies, with more to be released throughout the initial month. Those who sign up before the launch date get a free 90-day trial, after which Quibi will cost $4.99 with ads and $7.99 without.

Stephen Amell is Done with Arrowverse

In a recent Instagram live, Amell had finally addressed his possible return when a fan asked if he’ll ever appear on any of The CW’s current Arrowverse series. However, he immediately crushed Arrow fans’ hopes by confessing that he’s definitely done with the Green Arrow.

“No, I’m done,” Amell said. “That was good. It was a good eight years, but it was time to be done.”

He added, “It was actually really, really weird to watch The CW again. It was weird seeing promos for Supergirl and Flash and Batwoman again. It seems like a different lifetime. I don’t think I’ll be doing that again.”



First Ten Minutes of The Skywalker Legacy Documentary Released

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker doesn’t hit Blu-ray and DVD until March 31, but Disney has decided to release a 10-minute sneak peek at the expansive documentary, The Skywalker Legacy, which features an in-depth look at the entire nine-film saga. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is available for digital purchase now.
