Stream On: New To Netflix For May 2020

Social distancing and sheltering at home have kept a majority of the population indoors for the better part of the spring season. And while the nation strives to overcome these recent challenges, people are turning to their streaming services for comfort, entertainment, and distraction.

For the month of May, Netflix revs up their game as their viewership increases by 16 million subscribers. Along with an increase to their library of favorite movies, the streaming service giant also pulls out all the stops with a selection of heavy hitters in terms of high-end original movies, comedy specials, and series.

This month, Steve Carell returns to the workplace sitcom comedy genre with Space Force. Created by Carell and Office scribe Greg Daniels and co-starring John Malkovich and Ben Schwartz, Space Force follows a US Army General who teams with an oddball scientist to lead a new space agency for the United States. Series debuts on May 29.

Also this month, Ryan Murphy adds to his already impressive small screen category with the dark noir series, Hollywood, debuting on May 1. Starring David Corenswet, Darren Criss, and Patti LuPone, the series follows different individuals who try to make their way in post-WWII Hollywood.

On May 8, La La Land director Damien Chazelle debuts his musical drama The Eddy. Story follows the owner of a Jazz club in Paris as he fights to protect his business and his family from the seedy underside of Paris nightlife. Series stars André Holland, Joanna Kulig, and Amandla Stenberg.

Dead to Me returns for a second season on May 8, while The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt goes full Black Mirror with an interactive special on May 12.

The streaming service also offers new comedy to keep folks in high spirits during this trying time, including original specials from Patton Oswalt, Jerry Seinfeld, and Hannah Gadsby.

Netflix also packs the month of May with a bunch of feel-good and favorite movies to help the indoor masses. The Back to the Future franchise, a full catalog of Austin Powers movies, the Underworld franchise, and both versions of Roald Dahl’s Chocolate Factory will be available for viewing.

Stay safe, stay healthy, and happy binging.
