Deputy-turned-sheriff Dewey Riley is coming back to the bloody world of Woodsboro as David Arquette (Once Upon a Time in Venice) has signed on to return for the upcoming Scream reboot from Ready or Not directors Radio Silence at Spyglass Media Group.
The 48-year-old actor becomes the first actor from the original franchise to sign on for the fifth film in the series, with other legacy actors currently being eyed for returning, with word coming earlier this month that lead heroine Neve Campbell is currently in talks to reprise her role of Sidney Prescott.
“I am thrilled to be playing Dewey again and to reunite with my Scream family, old and new. Scream been such a big part of my life, and for both the fans and myself, I look forward to honoring Wes Craven’s legacy,” Arquette said in a statement.
While plot details are currently scarce, it is being reported that the film will follow “a woman returning to her home town to try to find out who has been committing a series of vicious crimes.”
“It’s impossible to fully express how much Wes Craven’s work and the Scream movies in particular mean to us as fans and have influenced us as storytellers,” Radio Silence said in a statement. “Kevin Williamson’s incredible stories have entertained and inspired us for decades and we’re insanely honored to have the opportunity to be a part of the cinematic world Wes and Kevin so brilliantly created together.
