Quibi Announces Cast For The Princess Bride Recreation

Rob Reiner’s The Princess Bride is being remade for Quibi which has partnered with Jason Reitman (Ghostbusters: Afterlife) for an ensemble recreation while in quarantine.

The cast list for the special includes Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner (Game of Thrones), Common (The Chi) and Tiffany Haddish (Girls Trip), Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother) and David Burtka, Hugh Jackman (Logan), Andy Serkis (War for the Planet of the Apes), Keegan-Michael Key (All the Bright Places), Elijah Wood (Come to Daddy), Beanie Feldstein (Booksmart), Jack Black (Jumanji: The Next Level), Diego Luna (Narcos: Mexico), Taika Waititi (JoJo Rabbit), Jon Hamm (Tag), Zazie Beetz (Atlanta), Patton Oswalt (The Boys), Josh Gad (Frozen II), Reiner and Fred Savage.

Other cast members are currently being kept under wraps, with the roster all trading off roles across the film’s iconic sequences and Savage reprising his role.

Based on the William Goldman novel of the same name, the 1987 film told the story of a farmhand named Westley, portrayed by Cary Elwes, as he journeys to rescue his true love, Princess Buttercup, played by Robin Wright, and is accompanied by companions befriended along the way, including Spanish fencer Inigo Montoya (Mandy Patinkin), out for revenge for the death of his father. To preserve the novel’s existence, the story is told in the film as a grandfather (Peter Falk) reading it to his sick grandson (Savage).

The new recreation is set to premiere Monday on Quibi.

Adult Swim’s Blade Runner Anime Series Update Is Coming

It’s been almost two years since Adult Swim and Crunchyroll announced they were partnering for an anime series based on the hit sci-fi film franchise Blade Runner and after no word in the time since, we’re finally set to hear an update this July at the Adult Swim Con.

The series, titled Blade Runner: Black Lotus, will take place in 2032 and will include characters previously seen in the Blade Runner universe. Shinichiro Watanabe (Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo) is serving as creative producer on the series, and he previously wrote and directed Blade Runner Black Out 2022, an anime short film that served as one of three short prequels to Blade Runner 2049.

Shinji Aramaki (Appleseed), who also worked on Black Out 2022, and Kenji Kamiyama (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex) will direct all of the 13 half-hour episodes. Animation studio Sola Digital Arts (Ultraman) will produce. Alcon’s Andrew Kosove, Broderick Johnson, Laura Lancaster, Al-Francis Cuenca, and Sola Digital Art’s Joseph Chou will executive produce. Ben Roberts will serve as co-executive producer for Alcon, with Production IG’s Mitsuhisa Ishikawa will participate as production adviser.

“The Blade Runner universe is an incredibly deep well for story and character with its world and mythology that audiences have been debating and talking about since inception,” Kosove and Johnson said in a previous statement. “We are excited to continue exploring that world via this anime series.”

“I first saw Blade Runner in 1982, at age 11. It has remained one of the defining films of my life,” Jason DeMarco, svp/creative director of Adult Swim on-air, said in a previous statement. “To be able to explore more of this universe, with the incredible talent we have on board, is a dream come true.”
