‘The Batman’s Grave #7’ (review)

Written by Warren Ellis
Art by Bryan Hitch
Published by DC Comics

Writer Warren Ellis and artist Bryan Hitch have been working together as a creative team for over twenty years. It has led to some amazing work.

Their collaboration is nice and assured here, and the book works on a whole lot levels.

It is pretty awesome.

The issue opens up with Batman and Commissioner Gordon talking.

They are completely thrown off about recent events. They also have no idea of how to handle what they are up against or what is coming next. That is when they step outside and see the Batmobile blows up.

What is going on here?

Well, quite a lot actually. Batman and the Commissioner are trying to figure out who is responsible for the series of grisly murders happening in Gotham. They are also trying to keep the city together.

A lot of the issue involves the investigation.

There is a lot of dialogue in this issue. Yet, it is never boring. Warren Ellis is a hell of a writer and this is some truly exemplary writing. And the issue is paced beautifully as well.

What can I say about artist Bryan Hitch’s artwork that has not been said many times before?

Well, he is equally as brilliant as Ellis. The art is some of the best of his career.

Plus, the creative team reintroduce Colonel Sulphur to modern audiences. What more can you ask for?
