Man, this comic really is one hell of a treat.
I loved The Question series in the 1980s and this is an absolutely perfect spiritual cousin to it. The look and the story are impactful, and it truly is wonderful that this book exists. It boasts a top notch creative team as well!
Each issue of this book puts The Question in a new setting.
Last month was the wild west, and this month is more of a noir setting. It is automatically very fun and fitting as we see Charlie Sage as a private detective. But “Charlie” looks like someone we know.
Leave it to Jeff Lemire to come up with such a cool concept.
A red haired dame comes into Charlie’s office. She is looking to hire him to find her brother who has gone missing. Charlie asks if her brother was an alcoholic. She tells him that her brother isn’t like that. Charlie eventually agrees to take on the intriguing assignment and tries to track down the lost brother.
Charlie starts hitting the pavement hard as he walks down the street. He is looking for clues anywhere he can find them. That is when he gets himself into a little bit of trouble and guess who shows up? Why, none other than the Question! Just what is going on here!l?
Lemire packs the story with so many twists and turns that it is exhilarating. The ending of this issue is especially awesome. And nobody draws the Question better than Denys Cowan. He does an amazing job here as well. This book really is an incredible series. I am only sad that it is ending next month.
