This has been a fairly decent comic book over the past year.
Writer Cecil Castellucci has been keeping things pretty damn interesting to say the least. This is another fine issue that is linked to the “Joker War” storyline that seems to be in all of the Batman related books these days. I like the way this one in particular is handled by the creative team.
This issue doesn’t waste any time in getting going.
Pretty much, the first few pages are Barbara Gordon creeping around. Someone is in the same space as her. After she lurks around a little bit, she comes face to face with the Joker himself!
She immediately starts beating the hell out of him.
Barbara is out for blood!
Things get pretty intense for a few panels. Then, the Joker sends an electrical current through Barbara and she is stopped in her tracks.
The rest of the issue is a psychological battle between Barbara and the Joker. Castellucci does a great job on the dialogue here, and this is fairly intense.
The end of the issue is quite simply perfect.
There are no easy answers in this issue and that is the way I like things.
The artist, Robbi Rodriguez, is perfect for this book. I hope he stays with the character in her next incarnation following this series upcoming end with issue #50. His style is vibrant and exciting.
This is another fine issue in a series that seems to be getting better and better each and every month.
