‘Superman’s Pal: Jimmy Olsen #12’ (review)

Written by Matt Fraction
Art by Steve Lieber
Published by DC Comics

This turned out to be a much better series than I originally thought it would be.

It is funny, goofy, and even a tad emotional. I think writer Matt Fraction and artist Steve Lieber captured something really great here. The series was truly unique from the very first page until the last.

The issue starts out at the Daily Planet.

Perry White has gathered the troops to tell them that he has to close the newspaper. Things look pretty hopeless. In fact, it is looking like only a miracle can save the end from happening.

That is when Jimmy Olsen shows up and becomes that miracle. It looks like Jimmy might indeed save the Daily Planet!

Jimmy won’t have long to celebrate if he does though, as he has to stop Julian Olson from getting away with his crimes. Things get pretty exciting.

Jimmy tries to stop Julian. He also must inform the world that he is still alive. All of this is resolved, and that is when Jimmy has one more stop to make: he has to go have one last conversation with Lex Luthor.

And boy, is it a doozy.

I never thought that this would be the best Superman related book on the stands presently.

Yet, that is exactly what this is.

It is a funny and smart book and it is unlike any series that I’ve read. I only hope that we get more stories for Jimmy with the same creative team, now that this limited series is over.
