‘Action Comics #1024’ (review)

Written by Brian Michael Bendis
Art by John Romita, Jr.
Published by DC Comics

This is another issue that has writer Brian Michael Bendis spinning his wheels basically. I was hopeful as this comic features Lex Luthor that something interesting might actually happen.

I was sorely mistaken, unfortunately.

The opening has some lame-o would be “villain” named Whisper, narrating the first few pages. It is supposed to set the tone, I guess, as he talks mysterious about his plans (I think), but it falls flat.

After a brief scene with the Red Cloud, Superman heads to the Daily Planet with some of his Super Family members. There seems to be a threat there. But there is no threat. Apparently, it was just Supergirl creeping around.

Kara and Clark reunite.

They don’t have much time to enjoy it though as the Red Cloud launches an attack. It is so by the numbers that you cannot help but roll your eyes. But don’t worry, it all ends in a cliched way as well.

Bendis just seems to be continually treading water, and does so here.

The art is again the best part as usual, but it doesn’t help the weak story.

I will hope again that next month this title turns around.

It doesn’t look good though.

RATING: D
