‘Action Comics #1026’ (review)

Written by Brian Michael Bendis
Art by John Romita Jr.
Published by DC Comics

The pain is almost over.

Brian Michael Bendis is soon leaving writing both the the Superman titles. He seems content to just spin his wheels until then. This title has become so boring and silly that it is hard to pay attention to it.

We may need a reboot when this is all said and done.

Brainiac 5 opens the story basically trying to orient the audience.

The problem is that it comes off as too self aggrandizing and silly. I mean, I get it. Bendis writes the Legion of Superheroes too, but this beginning is super annoying and completely silly.

This is the slam bang ending to the “House of Kent” saga.

After the cloying and annoying opening, we are left with a big battle. I have to say, John Romita Jr. does a great job on the art. The battle sequences here are superb. But honestly, he is an old pro at this. I expect nothing less.

Bendis can’t seem to form a cohesive story in the middle of the action, however.

The fight and the subsequent wrap up here are completely unsatisfying. Even worse, his dialogue has now stiffened.

Everything that made Bendis once great is now lost in a sea of confusion.

The ending basically leads into the last few issues of this run from Bendis on the Superman titles. It cannot come soon enough for me. He has overstayed his welcome.

Now, reading his Superman books have become grating.

RATING: D
