‘Batman Beyond #48’ (review)

Written by Dan Jurgens
Art by Paul Pelletier
Published by DC Comics

This is another one of the books that is being cancelled with it’s 50th issue. It is a real shame, too.

Writer Dan Jurgens has made a book that just worked. It was fun and full of adventure and it had great characters. I will truly miss reading this book month to month.

This issue starts off “decades from now.”

We see Terry McGinnis back in the Batman Beyond costume soaring through the Gotham of the future. He is in communication with Matt and an older Bruce Wayne.

Terry is headed for the Batcave and he is starving. He tells Matt that he better have some food ready.

Terry gets there and he talks to Bruce and Matt. Suddenly, Bruce starts acting weird.

He then goes a bit crazy. He points at Terry and accuses him that he has been sent to kill him.

What is going on?

Why is Bruce acting this way?

And most importantly, what comes next?

Bruce fights back!

A big battle erupts. This is all part of a bigger plot. Booster Gold shows up and he is somewhat responsible for Bruce Wayne’s current demeanor. Can anything be done? The rest of the issue is quite exciting as Terry tries to get his bearings and figure out what exactly is going on.
The story by Jurgens hooked me right away. He has done a great job making this book entertaining and interesting. Pelletier isn’t my favorite artist but he does a capable job here.

All in all, this is another solid issue of this title!

RATING: B+
