‘Detective Comics #1029’ (review)

Written by Peter J. Tomasi
Art by Kenneth Rocafort
Published by DC Comics

This is the better of the two Batman titles out right now.

Peter J. Tomasi is bringing us some real solid stories, month in and month out. Each issue that he writes is well crafted and nicely thought out. I love what he is doing here and it is really just awesome.

A new villain is introduced in the first few pages of the issue. His name is the Mirror and he is quite the striking figure.

When we first see him, he is trying rile up the citizens of Gotham. He is telling them that he wants to hold the masked vigilantes responsible for their actions in Gotham! He has had enough and he is ready to implement a plan!

You just know that he is going to cross paths with Batman!

So, we next get to see Bruce Wayne in Wayne Manor trying to pick up the pieces of his life these last few months. It is harder than it normally is for some reason. He doesn’t have much time to breath though, as he is thrown right in the thick of things.

The rest of the issue is basically Bruce catching wind of the Mirror’s message. The Mirror has to be stopped. But could this villain have a point?

Maybe it is time for Bruce to hang up the cowl. There are many themes and questions raised throughout the issue.

Tomasi writes another great script, full of heart and intelligence. The art by Rocafort is great too. His design of the Mirror is great and the whole issue is dynamic. You could not ask for a better story overall. This is pretty great.

RATING: A
