This is another DC book that is sadly coming to an end.
It is a real shame too. This is probably the best version of John Constantine we have seen in many years. This is the way the character should be portrayed in comics and I hope we don’t get a watered down version after this. But we probably will.
John Constantine is checking his voicemail at the beginning of the issue. He has a few nonsense messages. Then, he gets. He has a strange message from someone named Clem Thurso. It seems Clem has a bit of a problem that only Constantine can help with.
Clem is a medical doctor. He also believes that he is being hunted. We get to see Clem tell the story of why he is in trouble and how he ended up calling Constantine.
Needless to say, this involves demons and angels and a little bit of hell.
But this issue is a a lot more than even that. It is a noir or a mystery that never lets you settle in for too long.
Can Constantine save Clem?
Or is Clem already too far gone?
Are things as hopeless as they seem to be at the moment?
The story by Spurrier is pretty great. It is full of twists and turns and it is damn exciting. The art is the best of Aaron Campbell’s career. It is gorgeous to look at and the storytelling is awesome.
This is a great issue for a series that deserves to not be cancelled.
