‘Spy Island #2’ (review)

Written by Chelsea Cain
Art by Elise Mccall
Published by Dark Horse Comics

This series had a strange and fun first issue.

I love writer Chelsea Cain’s work and this series is pretty great so far. She has taken a simple concept and has put a lot of depth behind it.

The issue starts off on Mermaid Tooth State Beach in the Bermuda Triangle.

We see a gentleman named Claus walking along the beach. A big tidal wave hits. That is when a strange creature emerges from the sea.

It turns bloody pretty fast at this point and I loved it.

We then get to see super agent Nora Freud. She is getting used to the surroundings on this mysterious island.

Her sister has just arrived on the island as well. The beginning of the issue has her coming to terms with that. It is pretty amusing to be honest.

Then, we see that something has come in with the tide.

It is the body of a man that Nora has recently assassinated. What is he doing there and what does it mean to her?

Many questions arise from here. What is going on with this island?

Can she get off of it?

Is there a bigger mystery going on that she can’t see?

The story here is pretty damn intriguing. The art is well done on this. It is expressive and cool. I love that the island itself has been well thought out geographically as well. This is a cool book that has a lot going for it and I am enjoying it very much.
