‘Stillwater #2’ (review)

Written by Chip Zdarsky
Art by Ramon K. Perez
Published by Image Comics

The first issue of this series had a very intriguing setup.

I love the creative team, but they certainly are ambitious here. I have to say that they really deliver on the promise of that first issue with this one.. They keep the excitement high and the storytelling consistently great throughout.

This issue starts in the year 1990.  We get to see a young Tommy playing outside. A wolf comes up to him. Yet, he doesn’t seem bothered by this. His mother comes running towards him with great concern. Tommy is safe and he creepily looks at his mom.

What does this scene mean for the rest of the book?

I don’t know but things get crazy from this point on as well. Daniel West, out main character, has arrived in the wacky town of Stillwater.

We see Daniel at Police Headquarters handcuffed to a chair. He is  being interrogated pretty thoroughly as to why he is there. There is also a mystery unfolding.

That mystery has to do with a crime that has happened. We get to see all the players involved with it. Slowly, we start to learn that Stillwater isn’t just a strange town. It also has strange inhabitants playing a game of some sort.

Things get weird and then, well, weirder.

This all leads into a crazy ending. I am enjoying the mystery and I love all the clues that are being left. Chip Zdarsky writes one hell of an intriguing script. Ramon K. Perez does a great job on this art. This is a nice second issue. It expands on the story and gives us new mysteries as well. I enjoyed it very much.

RATING: A
