‘Batman #103’ (review)

Written by James Tynion IV
Art by Carlo Pagulayan and Guillem March
Published by DC Comics
Buy it Digitally from comiXology

This book has turned into a real snooze fest.

This had some potential to it but now borderlines on pointless. I feel like Tynion has run out of story ideas and this is where we ended up. I don’t feel he will be on this title much longer as it is not adding up to much.

Batman and Ghost-Maker face off in this issue! It pretty much is a brawl. The art is very good but I cannot help but think how generic this all feels. The fight feels generic. The characters seem generic. And the plot seems very undefined and I tried finding excuses to make this better.

Sadly, I could not.

Ghost-Maker doesn’t seem like he will ever amount to anything interesting.

He is not “mysterious” or anything like that. He is just bland and undefined. The confrontation between him and Batman is resolved pretty badly, and doesn’t add up to much.

We also get to see Harley Quinn go up against Clownhunter.

Clownhunter is another generic character Tynion is trying to turn into something significant. Maybe in somebody else’s hands it would work but this character is dull. This confrontation is dull. It really is starting to feel like filler.

The whole thing feels like it isn’t defined. Tynion’s script sinks under a sea of cliches. The art is decent again, but it can’t bring this story up. This feels like this is only going to get worse.

I hope I am wrong, but I don’t think so.
