‘Hellboy and The B.P.R.D.: The Seven Wives Club’ (review)

Written by Mike Mignola
Art by Adam Hughes
Published by Dark Horse Comics

Writer Mike Mignola and artist Adam Hughes are reunited once again for this Hellboy/B.P.R.D. one-shot!

They really do work well together and it truly shows in this comic. I really enjoyed this and there is a lot of passion for these characters on every single page.

The book opens in Savannah, Georgia in 1992.

Hellboy is meeting an old friend. She tells him a story about how she was looking for a guy named Tommy and she looked for him inside a strange house. She finds more than she bargained for when she goes there.

She encounters the Seven Wives Clubs which seem to be a bunch of weird ghosts.

Hellboy listens to story and gets involved. He gets involved and starts to investigate the Seven Wives. What he finds out is more than he ever thought was possible.

Hellboy goes to the place where the Seven Wives are.

He eventually pieces together just what is going on. Of course, some misadventures happen as well. But that is part of the fun. It all resolves itself by the end of the issue in a really fun and inventive way.

The story by Mignola is really just a blast. Hughes does a great job on the art as well, and it is expressive and just well done.

It doesn’t feel rushed, but I do wish this was longer. It feels more like an appetizer rather than a full meal in a lot of ways. It is still very good, however, and makes for a good comic book.

RATING: A-
