This book is nice enough spin-off from the main Umbrella Academy story. While it is a bit slight, it does play into Gerard Way’s overall story very well. I am enjoying this lark very much and it is pretty well done.

The opening scene has Klaus in a Hollywood casting agency.

He is called into the office but is quickly taken hostage by someone there. It is a dark and gruesome beginning that only gets darker and wackier throughout the issue.

We then head on over to an amusement park where we see the Shivers.

We catch up with them and see a bit what they are plotting.

This scene is very fun as the Shivers are a colorful bunch. It also starts to tie in with Klaus’s story pretty well at this point.

We then see Klaus out and about in Hollywood. He is doing a bit of investigating and by the end of the issue, it all goes pretty bad.

Forces start to converge. And Klaus has his work cut out for him.

He may not survive this.

The story is well crafted. It does get a bit silly at times and it sometimes feels like it doesn’t have a purpose other than to be weird. The art by Culbard is great though and this has some good storytelling moments.

All in all, it’s not bad. Not bad at all.

RATING: B
