Attending the X-Men First Class Blu-ray preview was my first time on the Fox lot in Hollywood.
I was kind of awed, but I couldn’t really show that, right?
BE cool kid, just be cool.
While we were waiting to go inside to the theater where they’d be touring us through the special features on the Blu-ray, we saw Sarah Hyland of “Modern Family” pull up in her car, blaring music, and quickly ran to set. They ushered us inside to the theater, dimmed the lights, and began showing us the special features, as presented by John Dykstra, Laura Shuler Donner, and Lucas Till.
Who looked a little bored, but were really nice about being bored, at least.
Right?
Anyway.
The X-men First Class Blu-ray and DVD were released on Friday (and if you’re any self respecting geek you should already have it) and although the DVD is equipped with some of the usual behind-the-scenes featurettes (showcasing the ADORABLE, rapscallion cast horsing around in their Kevlar costumes, naturally), the Blu-ray is where they’ve really dumped the cool stuff. In fact, they’ve weighed down the Blu-ray with so much awesome stuff I don’t even know why they bothered with a DVD release.
They’ve shot and edited eight “pods” which are the behind-the-scenes vignettes that you can choose to watch interactively while you’re viewing the film in “X Marks the Spot” mode, or as individual featurettes. There is the requisite Digital Copy included in the Blu-ray, and deleted/extended scenes, but the absolute RADDEST thing that they have done here is include a mutant-tracker Cerebro-esque virtual experience that allows you to unlock and store different profiles for your favorite mutants.
And as if this wasn’t cool enough, they’ve included 10 Marvel digital comics, including one written solely for the purpose of the X-Men: First Class Blu-ray release.
Overall, this is going to be a very successful DVD/Blu-ray release for a film that revived the X-Men franchise, and I can’t WAIT to watch all the behind the scenes featurettes for hints of the secret homosexual affair that James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender are having.
In my mind.
After the jump, check out footage from the Blu-ray and DVD launch party at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood, CA, where high above the city on the rooftop of the hotel, guests were able to view an exclusive 3D mapping extravaganza, putting them right into the action of the X-Men movies.
