It’s this title right here. Dan Jurgens has kept the writing fresh and fun from the very beginning and he’s also had some truly underrated artists working with him throughout. I’ve been loving it.
This issue has Will Conrad on the art duties again. Man, does he draw a great Batman from the future. And of course, Conrad is savagely underrated. Here, he struts his stuff both in his character work, his storytelling, and his panel layout. It’s great to see.
This is part two of the storyline, Target: Batman.
In it, the local news is bashing Batman left and right. It opens with Batman fighting against the Jokerz. Terry seems on edge because of the news.
Following that, Terry goes to Dana to talk about the fact that he is Batman. But Dana seems frightened by him. Turns out, she is seeing a nightmarish, demonic version of Batman. Jurgens keeps the suspense tight.
Just what is going on here?
After that, in a truly eerie scene, Terry stops a mob from burning down a big Batman statue. It’s rather frightening and the creative team handles it beautifully both story-wise and artistically. It’s a thrill ride for sure.
The ending is a cliffhanger that whets your appetite for more. It’s quite a book that’s been consistently great. I can’t wait to see what happens next.
