I really have enjoyed the last 25 issues of this title. Lobdell is crafting one the best books on the market. He’s been writing a character based story that just keeps getting better and deeper which each passing issue. It’s been great and unexpected and completely engaging.
This issue starts off with Jason Todd with a broken arm trying to have a little bit of target practice. He shoots but can’t hit his intended target. This leads to him falling on his butt and Roy Harper coming to pick him up off the ground. They have a conversation and then call it a day.
So, Jason Todd is trying to recover while Roy takes care of him.
But Roy can’t sit still. He has to do something.
So, he makes a mission for himself. He’s decides to track down the source of a bunch of tainted drugs that has killed thousands of people!
And he’s determined.
Eventually, Jason heals and helps Roy find the people responsible. Can they defeat them?
And can Jason become the Red Hood again and stop blaming himself for past events?
Lobdell answers all of these questions well with great dialogue, some excellent action, and quiet emotion. The final shot of Roy in this issue is wonderful and expressive and hits you right on the heart strings.
The Bizarro/Artemis story is also wrapped up from the regular comics at the end here as well. That one has art by Neil Googe and it’s a wonderful ending that segues into something else entirely
Having Clayton Henry draw this issue is a real treat. The art is expressive and wonderful and he draws a hell of an action scene. I liked this very much. Lobdell has been doing great. Let’s hope there is more coming!
