Man, Peter J. Tomasi really has written an amazing comic here. His whole run thus far on this title has been quite excellent and just seems to be getting better and better. I love the direction he has taken us, and this version of Batman is one that I personally quite enjoy.
The beginning of this issue shows Batman going about his day and cleaning up the streets of Gotham.
It’s a pretty well drawn sequence by Christian Duce. He’s got a great handle on Batman right away and I was in awe of his artwork here. He really has come into his own and it’s in this title that he just owns it. It may be one of the better versions of Batman that we have seen in quite some time.
Bruce comes home. He says hello to Ace. He tells Alfred to go to bed. He gets decontaminated. He decompresses a bit. Then there is nothing left to do. So, Bruce just goes to bed.
And why not?
He’s had one hell of a night doing some crime fighting. He wakes up the next day refreshed and ready to take on the world. Things get slightly out of hand from that point on.
We then get to see a scene of Deadshot preparing for a mission. He looks completely awesome here and things start to heat up! Lucius Fox then goes on a trip with Bruce Wayne.
It isn’t long before Deadshot comes aboard the plane and shoots things to hell. The plane crashes and that’s where the issue ends.
There is a second story involving Mr. Freeze. It’s a short but it shows him thawing out his beloved wife, Nora. What is going on here? I don’t know but it whet my appetite and I can’t wait to find out more!
This creative team is just awesome. The writing by Tomasi is tops. He has done some stellar work on this title. I’m blown away by the art by Duce. He’s always been good, but never this good.
This is a top level book that always seems to put a smile on my face recently. Well done.
