October brings some fantastic INSTANT WATCH avails on Netflix.
Add some of these to your Horror Movie fests as we near Halloween.
That is, when you’re not busy watching the 375th airing of Halloween 4 and Halloween 5 on AMC.
Although it’s not technically a Horror Film, it’s kind of a horror film, albiet not as scary as director Joe Carnahan’s previous movie, The A Team.
The Grey would make a great double feature billing with The Howling or The Company of Wolves.
Or, just for giggles, replace the end credit music with Duran Duran’s Hungry Like the Wolf.
Fresh from a very recent theatrical and On-Demand run is this festival-hyped boogyman tale starring Jessica Biel.
It’s really, really hard to not think Phantasm with that title, but this one’s free of flying silver balls.
That’s what she said.
This movie couldn’t catch a break last year.
It’s way better than the critics would have you believe, and it’s a rare thing in being a respectable remake of a much beloved cult-classic.
Although Guillermo del Toro produced, not directed, it has his mark all over it.
Definitely check it out.
Stay with this slow-paced, haunted hotel movie from Ti West (The House of the Devil).
It’s often very funny, eventually very scary and, best of all, a love letter to 80s horror-comedies.
To borrow a line, it knows what scares you.
THE SPIRIT IS WILLING
Hey, speaking of Horror-Comedies, here’s one from master showman William Castle.
It’s not one of his best, but it’s a welcome rarity from his filmography that features Sid Caesaer and Vera Miles.
It’s about as terrifying as Disney’s The Haunted Mansion and as high-brow as The Ghost and Mr. Chicken.

I wasn’t all that crazy about this year’s Snow White and the Huntsman mainly because I felt like the darker take on the tale was done in 1997.
This odd little movie is worth watching for the brilliant Sigourney Weaver as “Claudia Hoffman,” a noblewoman who dabbles in the dark arts.
Not to be confused with Claudia Hoffman from my synagogue, who dabbles in the Talmud.
