‘Batgirl #35’ (review)

Written by Mairghread Scott
Illustrated by Paul Pelletier
Published by DC Comics

The last issue was a little more fun than I was used to reading on this title since Scott took over the writing job. It had a bit of humor along with some exciting scenes.

I was hoping that this issue would pick up right from there as the creative team left us off on a hell of a cliffhanger.

This issue has Batgirl captured by a bunch of lunatics, aka The Terrible Trio, who are getting ready to kill her.

They have her in a big glass container and they are lowering Batgirl down to her demise. Water starts to pile into this big glass container.

It’s a harrowing scene for sure as Batgirl tries to get out of this container.

She fires her grappling gun at it in an effort to break free. The art by Pelletier is actually very effective here and makes the scene very intense.

We then get some scenes that aren’t as exciting of some of the people in Barbara’s life wondering where she is. These scenes are okay but took me away from the action. I understand that’s it’s necessary but it was pretty standard fare.

When we get back to the action, it picks right up! Batgirl starts to bang on the glass! Then, she gets free! A big fight ensues! The creative team cuts loose! Then the shark guy jabs himself with some sort of drug and he becomes a super crazy Shark Guy! It leads to a cliffhanger that is a lot of fun.

I really enjoyed where the creative team took us these past two issues. I hope it continues. This story is one that is nutty for sure but it’s highly enjoyable. And that’s fine by me!

RATING: B+
