‘Batgirl #36’ (review)

Written by Mairghread Scott
Illustrated by Paul Pelletier
Published by DC Comics

This is writer Mairghread Scott’s last issue as the writer of this book. It’s kind of a shame because even though I didn’t enjoy her first few issues, I really liked this latest storyline.

It’s been absolutely bonkers and moved really quickly! I was entertained and really that’s all you can ask for!

At the beginning of the issue, Batgirl is trying to escape the Fox’s den.

We first see her here challenging a bunch of villains while trying to make her escape. She asks if there are any takers who wants to stand up and fight her.

She looks so intense here that I wouldn’t think that anyone would take her up on the offer!

The Fox tries to attack her but she makes short work of him and his goons. Meanwhile, a fire is raging around her. Things are super intense and Scott keeps upping the ante throughout the issue.

Just when Batgirl thinks she’s going to make a getaway, the Vulture throws a knife into her back!

She turns and faces the Vulture. And the two of them have one hell of a fight scene. It’s actually pretty damn awesome. Batgirl tries to get the Vulture to come to his senses but he just goes nuts on her. It’s pretty crazy and that leads to the book getting more intense.

This actually leads into a horrifying conclusion for a few of the characters. It’s a dark and emotional scene. I was a little disturbed to be honest. That just means that the issue is very effective and tells its story very well.

The creative team ends the issue fairly well too. I wish they started off the series with these last few issues. While I’m not the biggest Pelletier fan, he does okay here. Both of the creators do.  Maybe they will work together again. They finally found their footing in their collaboration, even if it’s a little late.

RATING:B
