This book is absolutely terrific. Slade Wilson is now dead and the book keeps on going!
That shows what a great writer Christopher Priest is. He’s able to not only keep the book interesting but also incredibly exciting. I have no idea where this is going but I am reading with a newfound excitement!
The first few pages reveal who is the new Deathstroke underneath the mask.
It’s a fairly complicated sequence artistically, but it’s handled with class.
The new Deathstroke takes off the mask. We learn who it is. As soon as we do, a whole new series of questions form.
It’s pretty damn cool, and Priest keeps things rolling right along at a smooth clip.
I don’t want you spoil who the new Deathstroke is. But they are someone who we have seen throughout the book and they played an important part in the Defiance storyline.
It’s really cool to see them take up the Deathstroke mantle. It’s also great to see that they discover who killed Slade Wilson and have to come to terms at just what they plan to do with that knowledge.
They have a confrontation with Shado. They are put through a weird kind of gauntlet. They are asked a lot of questions. Yet, the whole thing keeps moving at an incredible pace. And it’s all logical and makes perfect sense. Priest does a great job of making it all feel seamless as well as completely fresh.
This also ties into the “Villain of the Year Crossover.”
Jericho gets an offer and he decides to accept it. It looks like he is going to join up with the Legion of Doom. I’m excited to see just where this particular storyline takes us. It’s fairly awesome.
The whole issue just works. This is a fun time to be reading this book as I have no idea where it’s going. It really can go anywhere. And that’s the best feeling anyone can have as a reader. Bravo.
