This book was the best new series to come out last year.
It is a comic book that has been a joy to read since the very first issue and I honestly cannot get enough of it.
It is funny and well written and well illustrated and it is very relevant to the time we live in.
I can’t think of a book that has more creativity than this currently being produced.
The opening pages have our hero Sunstar attending a therapy session that wants the people in it to “Unlock The Hero Within.”
Sunstar talks about how his fiance Sheila wanted him to take off two weeks for their upcoming honeymoon. Things get wildly funny and somewhat sad when Sunstar tells the group how he weighed human life against his personal one.
This is darkly funny and even a tad emotional.
From there, we flash back to Jerusalem 2000 years ago. Jesus and the Devil have a discussion. Then, Jesus goes over to help a bunch of people. The results of this are a little painful to watch. It also leads into the rest of the story.
The rest of the issue leads up to the wedding between Sunstar and Sheila. They get married and go off on the honeymoon. But the Devil is still trying to wreck havoc. Jesus then has to make a few decisions about how to handle him.
This whole thing leads up to a very cool last page that gives us some indication of where the story will be going next. It is very cute and actually the next logical step in all of this.
Mark Russell killed it with the writing of the series. Richard Pace killed it on the art duties. They are superb collaborators.
As an added bonus, this book has a preview of Billionaire Island by Russell and artist Steve Pugh. That looks amazing as well. For now, this is an excellent issue and maintained the quality on this book that I have come to expect.
