This has been a nice little surprise of a book.
The story is a lot of fun and it really has a different take on Superman. Gene Luen Yang is a fantastic comic book creator.
Here, he writes an amazingly cool comic book story that makes you smile and sit on the edge of your seat.
The book opens with Clark Kent and Lana Lang in Smallville heading into a circus.
They get to explore the circus a bit. It isn’t long before some of the animals get loose. It is a good thing Clark is there to stop these poor animals.
Clark meets the resident circus strongman and it has a strange impact on his life.
Clark compares himself to a strongman and heads out dressed as Superman. It isn’t long before he comes across some trouble atop The Daily Planet building. Superman checks out the building and makes sure that everyone is safe. Clark isn’t happy and he goes off to track down the people who might be responsible.
We then get a scene with the Klan and they discuss their plans. They also have some hostages. Superman breaks down a wall and starts a fight. The fight is pretty intense but Superman does indeed save the day.
The rest of the issue has the Klan and Superman getting ready for the final fight. Clark also gets to see his parents and they give him a history of the planet he comes from. It is a sweet moment for sure and poignant.
The end of this book is completely awesome. I have to say, Gene Luen Yang has written a very different Superman book. But it is completely awesome. The art by Gurihuru is pretty sweet too.
Maybe we can have more adventures by this creative team?
Either way, this series is well done and completely worth taking the time to read it from start to finish.
