‘Dark Knights Death Metal: Speed Metal #1’ (review)

Written by Joshua Williamson
Art by Eddy Barrows
Published by DC Comics

This book is my favorite book from the Death Metal spin-offs.

This one focuses on the Flash family and it hits all of the right emotional beats. Joshua Williamson writes this issue and it is the perfect coda of his Flash run. It also ties up some of the Rebirth threads that were left over.

It all starts off with showing us what led to where we are today. We see Wally coming back in Rebirth and all of the things that he has been through. You realize quickly that this issue is a Wally West story.

Sure, there are other Flashes in the issue, but Wally is the central point.

To be honest, that made me a bit nervous.

Since Heroes in Crisis, Wally has been sort of discarded by the DC Universe.

So yes, I was worried. I should have known better. Williamson has a great take on Wally and it shows on every page. He used Wally before but in this comic, he finally nails the characterization.

Wally and the gang fight against a hoard of Dark Flashes. The Flash family races to keep away from the Darkest Knight and his Lightning Knights. It is an issue full of adventure and adrenaline. It also leaves Wally in a good place finally.

By the end the issue he is exactly where he should be as a character.

Joshua Williamson has written a gift of an issue. This is really something. He has done it with class too. The art by Eddy Barrows is great too and really represents the characters well. I loved this book.

The last page is simply awesome. This is the perfect place for Wally to be. It’s great.

RATING: A
